Fishing Report

Whoever designs the packaging for toys and electronics should either be arrested or put in charge of national defense. Nitroglycerin would be secure in these impenetrable fortresses of plastic... why does Barbie need one? or a cheap throw-away camera, for that matter.

Anyway, I'm reeling in this fish, thinking, "Man, I can't wait to post whatever this is on Hooked-in", when I realize that I had forgotten to bring my camera. At the same time, I remember that I had recently bought a fish scale that happened to come with a free disposable camera. So I'm trying to play it cool in front of my 4 and 2 year old fishing partners as I'm reaching into the backpack on my back with my drag screaming against this leaping, splashing whale. Standard operating procedure here, kids.

I pull out the Plastic Package containing the camera/scale and calmly ask my eldest to "find something sharp". He brings me a granola bar. "For energy", he says. I nod in understanding and hand him my fishing pole. The next 30 seconds are a blur, but through some combination of luck, teeth, hands, and a spinnerbait, my boy landed this beauty and I broke a camera out of Alcatraz.

My girl took the picture.

Moral: if you don't come prepared, you'd better have good partners.
