10.0" Smallmouth Bass caught by Joe Pych fishing on Sunday June 29, 2008 at 06:30 in Boston Lot Lake near West Lebanon in Grafton County, New Hampshire (NH), United States North America using a Worm

Yesterday I noticed the needlenose pliers in my tackle box were getting stiff. So, I sprayed on some WD40 and worked it in to loosen them up. Good thing because they got a workout today...

After a rainy night, I woke up early to the birds chirping at daybreak. I decided to take advantage of the dry weather and headed out fishing. After a short car ride and a 20 minute hike through the woods, I arrived at my destination -- Boston Lot Lake in Lebanon, NH. My new lucky spot.

Within minutes I was into some smallmouth bass. I was getting a bite or a fish with just about every cast. My luck continues and I was using those pliers regularly to cleanly extract the hooks before returning the fish to the lake. They were small ones 8-10" so I did not bother to take photos of the little ones. I was hoping to catch a big one!

I switched to a shad rap to try for a bigger fish when the rain started falling. Slowly at first, then in sheets. So, I started back down the trail before I got soaked (I did not bring any rain gear - not smart). Then the rain stopped as soon as it started. So, I did an about face and went back to fishing.

I tried the shad rap some more. I did not catch any fish with it, but that shad rap lure is really good about finding any strand of abandoned fishing line in the lake. I pulled out lots of garbage line and some usable lures. At least I cleaned up the lake.

Then I got frustrated and went back to the worms and caught a few more small ones. Then the rain came back hard followed by thunder and lighting. So, I called it a day. By the time, I made it back to the car I was soaked to the bone.

Good thing I headed home early. My 5-year old, Curtis, was playing with a stapler and somehow managed to drive a staple into his thumb right up to the shaft. After unsuccessfully trying to pull it by hand, I turned to the trusty needlenose pliers for the 7th time today to extract that staple. It came right out. Robin and Curtis were both very happy I was home early!

WD40 keeps the world spinning smoothly. Great story, hope the thumb heals quickly.
