this map doesn't show the dam crossing the entire river, or the road, or the walls to the shipping locks...but i was fishing just below the dam, and in a semi-protected area of rip-rap for spiney-rays from just after sunrise on. i'd landed maybe 25 crappies (both white and black) as well as a few smallmouth bass (in the 2lb range) when i hooked this rather large crappie. i hardly even noticed a bite...so it must have hooked itself. i was quite surprised by the sheer size of it though.
