Charter fishing trip with family. We caught six of these monsters. For some reason the guides did not want us using steel leaders. I guess there were other gamefish that were more selective than the Barracuda. You can see these fish when snorkeling down there as well. It can be a little intimidating... to say the least. Joe, my wife and I were in the same scenario a few years back, snorkeling off of South Water Caye in Belize. Scanning the bottom for conch shells, when we look around and notice dozens of barracuda slowly surrounding us on all sides. Definitely a scary moment. We just froze until they dispersed. They say not to wear anything shiny underwater, or you may become an accidental target. Chris.. how's it feel to have one of these on your line? They must hit like a rhino. One time I was snorkeling off Key West and saw a bunch of barracuda in the water. I immediately made a beeline back to the boat, but the guide said not to worry about them. Sure enough... they did not bother us, but they watched me the whole time with their mouths open showing off those pointy teeth. I could only guess what they were thinking: "iz me. i wachin u."
