2.0 lb. Largemouth Bass caught by Kevin F. fishing on Sunday March 11, 2012 at 20:32 near Apex in Wake County, North Carolina (NC), United States North America using a Popper I tied a Bass Fly

Caught this guy and several others. The highlight was it was on a popper I tied. Awesome fun. This fish was super fat, it looked like it swallowed two softballs.

J&A, I use an 8wt with floating line and regular 10lb mono for a leader. I usually go big with my bass flies. The smallest size hook I usually go with is a sz2. There are two things that happen when you go smaller. 1)Bigger bass may not go for the fly because they feel it's not worth the effort. 2)Bluegill will hit the smaller flies and they get to them much faster than big bass. Big bass like to come up inspect the fly or look at it at a certain distance then ambush it. I've rarely caught a big bass I could see. Usually they are lurking somewhere just out of sight.

Kevin F. For Bass what is your line weight do you use? I use a 5wt with a 6lb leader and tippet using a #12 streamer
