13.0" / 2.5 lb. Smallmouth Bass caught by Josh Bacharach fishing on Sunday September 21, 2008 at 14:50 near Naperville in DuPage County, Illinois (IL), United States North America using a 2 3/4 inch 1/2 oz baby bass color rattling rap a Lipless Bait by Rapala International

so later the same day, i decided to try another one of my rattling rapala lipless baits, this time i tied on the baby bass color. i cast out maybe 70 ft, and again on slow retrieve. BAM!!! set the hooks, and the battle was on.. my grandpa always told me that even a small smallmouth will fight harder than a largemouth, and he was right. my 1st smallmouth ever. seemed like he would have been bigger by how hard he fought me, jumping like a ft out of the water 3 or 4 times. it was a battle, especally from a 6 ft high riverbank. but ulimately, i ALWAYS win.. hehehehe
