16.0" Largemouth Bass caught by Willard Gage @ Watershed Tackle fishing on Sunday September 30, 2012 at 00:00 near Walled Lake in Oakland County, Michigan (MI), United States North America using a ½ oz black roostertail w/silver blade a In-Line Spinner by Rooster Tail (Worden's)

Fished for four hours on Walled Lake Sunday morning. The water temperature still at 62 F.

I caught 6 Largemouth Bass (shown here), going 5 for 6 and 2 for 2 on northern pike (next post). Bass were 13-16 inches and the pike were between 20-27 inches. I also lost a bass, the first fish of the day, right at the net . It was probably the largest bass of the year for me and I am not happy about it. The long casts are definitely paying off in strikes, but there is too much stretch in the 12# fluorocarbon I am using. I picked up some Berkley Tracer braid and a pair of Trokar hooks. If the experience I have had with the nanofil on my spinning rods is any indication I should not have an issue getting the hook into the fish from this point forward, no matter how long the casts. I am just concerned about losing casting distance and wind knots since the braid is so thin. Any suggestions or recommendations?

All fish were caught on ½ oz black roostertails with silver blade. It had to be black today, not white, not firetiger. I also noticed that a bit slower retrieve was in line for the largemouth, probably due to a combination of the cold water and changing front conditions which recently went through the area.

My casting distance went up with braid! It flies even in the wind. Flurocarbon is great as a leader or a trolling line for deep runs, but casts poorly and has to much stretch for me. I can feel a micro bump with braid. It is mush and lost with mono or flurocarbon.
