I had a really slow day on the river. Nothing was biting and the water is still pretty cold. I had a couple flies just come off. I swore I tied a good knot so I thought maybe it was a bowfin or pickerel. I tied on some 20lb mono and a slumpbuster. Time to check out if these flies live up to their name. On my first cast I felt a nice tug. Fish on. At first I thought it was a catfish because it stayed deep. Then the fish came up and rolled on it's side. It was too far away to see clearly. Maybe this is a huge white bass I thought. As the fish turned towards me and opened its mouth there was no question.

LMs, this time of the year in a cold river, do fight like catfish; they just use their weight. Posted by Lenny Trout
