It looks like people used the holiday time to brave the elements and catch fish. Not to be outdone, I went out on New Year's Day to land my first fish of '14. Waters were high and stained at my favorite pickerel hole, but I focused on slow pockets and riffles and managed to land my 1st fish of the New Year. I didn't have much time, and spent much of it looking for likely places (there weren't many) but the effort paid off with this beauty of a pickerel whose stamina was aided by a strong current during the fight. The fish was hooked deep and bled a little, but I removed the hooks quickly and returned the fish to water with speed. The fish swam away as if nothing had happened.

Brian, I am interested in that 5/10/14 trip on the Delaware River. Casting for Walleyes and some shad would be great. What are the particulars (leave from, time out on the water, cost, etc.)

You know I'm always down. I actually just booked a float trip on the Delaware for shad with a little casting for walleye mixed in. May 10th. I can fit 2 more people.
I'm also free most of May until flounder season opens, then its back bay 24/7.

Dennis,

What a great idea. I have a close friend who lives in Newton, NJ area, and plan to visit him. We were discussing a float trip on Delaware. Who knows, maybe with Brian, we can have a good old fashioned shad bake!

Hank, It would be my pleasure and honor to take you to some of m y local hot spots. With planning I know we could also have Brian Shea there as well. Just let me know a bit in advance. I'm now retired and Brian is addicted to fishing. dghuskins@verizon.net

Thanks Albert, and the same to you! No snakes I winter, but plenty when it is warm!
Most are harmless water snakes and blacksnakes!
