100.0 lb. Stingray caught by Jim Miller fishing on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 11:57 near Frisco in Dare County, North Carolina (NC), United States North America using a Cut bait got a small bluefish that then caught thi a Baitfish

This is a blunt nose stingray. On goggle the largest measured underwater in the wilds was 33 inches across, this one was 53 inches across. The IGAF Worlds record caught on rod and reel was 37+ pounds, this one was 100 pounds. No one wants to go through all the trouble of registering a worlds record "Trash fish", but I would have, just to be in the books. My Buddy Jim Miller of North Carolina was just happy to beach this behemoth after a 40 minute battle. He was using a small Drum bottom fish finder and an 8 oz sinker with a 13.5 foot Saltiga rod. He had hooked a 14" blue fish that was then taken by the ray. I have had trouble bring in a 25 pounder, because they flap with the wave pull and lay on the bottom and bury themselves in the sand. Landing this baby in front of me took skill.

Wow, that is a massive stingray! I've hooked a few big ones in the surf, and they do wear you down.

I noticed in the photo that he kept the stinger facing to the front. It was a smart move.

WOW, what a catch! Am i understanding correctly that your buddy is NOT going to try to get his name in the record books? He really should send in it's weight and measurements, even though it is a "trash fish".I bet that bad boy put up one heck of a fight!
