I didn't catch this Chain Pickerel - the heron did. The bird snatched it from the water, carried it to the bank, and realized the fish was too big and feisty. Placing the fish on a flat area, the bird took one look at it then cocked its head. The death strike that happened was so fast I barely so it, but, given the fact this large water birds are dinosaurs, I had a little chill run down my spine as I imagined what the larger saurian birds would have done to their prey 100 million years ago. It was an awesome sight.
