Ok, OK! It's not a Redfin Pickerell! Seems there is no radio button for a Mud Minnow! I did catch him while fishing for Redfin Pickrell though. It seems the Mud Minnows eyes are bigger than its stomach though. And what a fight, given his small stature. I would love to hook into a 5 lbs. version of this guy!

So correct. I never intended to type mud minnow, didnt even see that! It is a mud sunfish, and I have since caught 6 more in that same spot. I shared this spot with the biologist who runs ncfishes.com and he went there and got his long awaited photo for his collection. Thanks for the correction. I doubt I would ever have noticed it.

Made an account to say this is a mud sunfish not a mudminnow. One of the rarest sunfish in the world. There are various species of mud minnow that occupy the same waters as these guys but they're much smaller. See eastern mudminnow.
