using
a 1/2 oz. black-silver salvaged lure, unknown make
a Crankbait
I know this night (and most of the week) has no good news on the solar/lunar calendar, but a man's just got to fish.
I started with dark bellied poppers (and rotated colors for a bit) with no luck even though I could see shad leaping away from bass below.
So I switched to a subsurface all-white H20 brand (Academy Sports house brand)crank. I fanned it right and left along the bank, trying to bump it off of any shallow stuff. The first fish (about 1#, 13" or so) hit from below, hooking itself under the mouth and inside the lower lip.
I tossed him back and kept fanning the white crank with no luck.
I switched to the unnamed crank that caught the 3# last week for me. The posted fish hit on the first cast to the left again along the bank. It hit near the end of the return on the first cast with such force that I thought I had snagged something. As I pulled back, the line turned and I hauled it in. I put it against the tape (just over 17") and onto the scale (2 pounds, 3 oz.)before pulling it back into the water.

It's bassing. Of course you buy a variety of lures so you can throw a variety and lures. You'll throw over, under, and next to a bass you don't see, then they hit whatever they hit. Who really knows why they let one go and pick another one? It's just too much like American Idol.
