22.0" / 3.4 lb. Landlocked Salmon caught by Kool-Aid Fishing Charters fishing on Tuesday August 12, 2008 at 23:20 in Lake Winnipesaukee 7.15 km from Mirror Lake in Carroll County, New Hampshire (NH), United States North America using a The Kool-Aid Lure Guides Special a Casting & Trolling Spoon

This was one that my grandfather reeled in on the Kool-Aid. I brought my grandparents out for a day of Salmon fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee last season. I somehow convinced them to get out there by sunrise... It paid off, one of the best quality/quantity days I had all year.

We were just starting out, I was setting up just South of Welch Island, first rod wasn't in the water for more then a minute when I hear my grandmother shriek, one rod was bumping in its rod holder! Grampa grabbed the rod and danced the fish right up to the side of the boat. His first NH Salmon! 3.4 pound fatty! I will always remember this day, we had a great time!

I run mostly top-water to 8 feet down in the first few weeks of the season. Sometimes right after ice out you can catch salmon 20 feet down. Water on the surface can be too cold... I Look for water temps in the 55 degree range. I usually run smelt until late may and then I switch over to the DB smelt and Top Gun's.
I would love to make a trip up to Champlain this summer, I have heard some good things about the fishing up there!

Razzle Dazzle

Awesome, awesome, awesome.
I fish Lake Champlain for salmon and browns.
Nice fish you got there.
I fish from a starcraft---Razzle Dazzle is it's name. I like the name Kool-Aid.
My boat is still under winter wrap. Maybe I'll get it unwrapped this week-end, we'll see.
What is your set up this early in the year? Top water, fairly shallow water here this time of the year with small spoons or small pin stickbaits.
Keep the posts coming---great job.

I'll bet your grandparents were happy you rolled them out of bed! That is a nice fish for Winni. What a great day - I hope your clients have the same luck with you this year.
