Fishing Report

3.0 lb. Rainbow Trout caught by Joe Pych fishing at the Winni Derby on Saturday May 16, 2009 at 15:52 in Lake Winnipesaukee 5.14 km from Wolfeboro Falls in Carroll County, New Hampshire (NH), United States North America using a red shiner a Baitfish

This was an interesting catch. This was one of 3 fish caught simultaneously aboard the Kool-Aid. I got this rainbow. Cody Dodds got a salmon. John Dodds got a lake trout. Very exciting! We were calling it the "grand slam" and the "cycle" on the boat.

The unusual part is all these different fish were caught at the same time, same bait, same place, same depth. I guess they are all hanging out together.

Too bad there was no category for rainbow trout in the winni derby. I think this fatty would have done well.

The weight is just a guesstimate - maybe more, maybe less. I did a quick release in the hopes she will visit me again (with a tag and more weight) during the winter ice derby where she counts ;-)

we catch ours in casting nets up around the dams and we keep them in livewells made from 35 gallon plastic barrels with aerators on them...they are very hard to keep living, but we use some powder called keep alive and make sure the water stays as cold as possible, and we usaully dont have a problem with the shiners dieing...

Got them at a bait shop. We'd normally use smelt, but all the bait shops ran out on day one of the derby. They are hard to keep alive.
