I was experimenting with hooking techniques mosly by NOT hooking them in time. I can't tell you how many got away due to slow sets with a torpedo, worm, etc. There were no serious takers for the buzzbaits or tube baits, either. I didn't bother to use the Color-C-Lector as the grass was just under the surface for the first 10' off the bank.
It didn't look like much of a strike in the water as this one took the bait and hooked itself in the left hinge of the jaw. You know the place, the part that's real hard to UNhook? I was pleased to see a 16" bass when I hauled him in given the lackluster strike. The dog I brought with me sniffed it twice and went back to acting bored. The fish was a little stunned, but made it back fine after a plier-assisted unhooking. It was the second one, the first being a 8" estimated as I don't even bother to measure them.
I left after the shadows were off the pond because the dang dog was starting to get passive/aggressive. I'll take another dog next time, for sure. The picture is of the dog, because you probably already know what a 16" largemouth looks like.
