50.0 lb. Flathead Catfish caught by Josh Brines fishing on Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 18:06 near Cottonwood Falls in Chase County, Kansas (KS), United States North America using a Worms with a 6/0 hook and a 8 ounce sinker

My 8 year old nephew and i was fishing on the Cottonwood River Bridge. I had caught a 15 pound and 10 pound flathead earlier in the night. about 12am my nephew yelled my name and said he was snagged on a log so i went over to get him undone. when i grabbed the pole i realized that he had a fish on and started trying to drag the fish to the side of the bank down below. i knew it was a big one i was worn out 5 minutes after fighting him. i finally got him pulled through the current and to the side. my friend ran down and got him on the bank below the bridge. he came waddling with this huge flathead. we got out the scales and it weighted 50 pounds my nephew was the happiest kid alive. it was a wonderful night of fishing.

Nice Kitty-Kitty!! Hows it feel to have a #50 on the end of a pole? Nice..Huh? Its too late now, but if you ever were to get another cat thats #50+ you can get your "Master Angler" cert. here in Kansas. Don't know about the "youth" deal?? Keep showin these people that aren't from here what they are missin by not "Fishin Kansas". Great Catch!! Oh and by the way...even tho you reeled it in for him, it was "His Fish" since it was "His Pole"..That's what my kids, neices, nephews and grandkids have informed me in the past and my wife!! Try argueing that logic with a kid or a wife... LOL If you don't mind me askin..what river is that you are fishin on? Surely not the Cottonwood? Let me know, would appreciate it.. paulnvick@netzero.net Thanks!!

You should check if they have a youth category for fishing records in your state - I bet that would qualify!
