Henry - Thanks for the offer, but you can keep the Yankees hat in your bag ;-) Posted by Joe Pych 4 months ago |

I was kidding about the Bowfin bait, but it makes sense. I only fish for them with artificials but one of my favorites is a Yellow Perch Rapala. It's a Bowfin killer in the early spring. One last thing - I keep a spare Yankees hat in my tackle bag. You can borrow it next time you forget your hat. Posted by Henry V 4 months ago |

Henry - That's bowfin bait here, too. The fishermen who were targeting the bowfin would catch small perch then cut off the spiny dorsal fin to make it easier for the predator to swallow. Never tried that, but seemed like good strategy. In some locations we could catch little perch all day long if we wanted to - maybe next time we should throw them in the livewell! Some were fishing for bowfin with store bought shrimp... I thought that was strange, too, but they were catching fish. Thorsten - I was on John Harrington's boat. He's got a nice 20-foot Lund with electric downriggers and the works. The ultimate salmon/trout trolling machine. I was very thankful for the ride. But many who fish the LCI derby do it from shore. Brandon - sorry to disappoint you... i forgot my Red Sox hat at home. I only had a camo hat like Bill Murray's in Caddyshack. Posted by Joe Pych 4 months ago |
