Every year for my brother's birthday, I travel up from New Jersey to spend a day or two with him fishing our brains out. My brother, Dr. Fred Loy of Bennington, Vermont, will finish his morning rounds at the hospital and we will then depart for any one of our favorite lakes. On the water by 10:00 a.m. our very first trolling pass just in front of the launch ramp cove produced a massive strike, a great drag-screaming battle and a water-drenched landing of a 10 lb. 12 oz. pike (as carefully weighed on my electronic scale). This was my brother's biggest Vermont pike to date and and it was quickly and gently released. In my haste to assist in the landing and simultaneously film the adventure, I hit the camera button twice, effectively switching off the camera. Sorry, Fred!!! The very next trolling pass produced a 6 !/2 lb. pike for my brother and a while later I hooked, in the same spot, a fish that I had trouble turning even with my heavy trolling tackle. It twice took large amounts of line against a strong drag and it pulled as hard as any twenty pound musky. I never saw the fish. It will just have to be one of those great memories. Happy birthday, Fred!

Too bad you missed the photo :-( Understandable with all that excitement and that toothy monster in your boat.
