another day on the Coosa with the inventor of the Gargetter Lure Terry Smith..This was the first of 13 fish Terry, myself and my son Brian of Atlanta caught on that trip.. I guess we're gettin ho hum with 12 and 13 lb fish as weve caught em in the 20s in the recent past. Hi guys,
thanks for the nice comments..When I first fished the Coosa..on that day in 2002..there were too many gar porpoising for 2 anglers to fish effectively..I saw more big fish, than on any day ever..and Ive fished for over 50 yrs...longnose gar large n small were everywhere.. My personal best 26 lbs was cayght there, also 3 fish over 20 in one 12 hr period..
Last Nov the gent in the front of the boat terry..who developed the gar getter lure caught one that weighed 28 lbs and was 59.5 in long.... It was an amazing moment..Thes fish ignore shiners and other minnows,,I didnt believe it until I tossed one out under a bobber,,schools of gar ignored that presentation but chase the gar getter lure...go fiiger
Im annoyed now because, unlike when I resided in Atlanta and only 2 hrs away from the Coosa..Im now in AR and 7 hrs away from these fish..
There are bigger ones..Ive seen 5 footers cruise on by....and oh!!! all fish are released....
rope lures are the ticket
