I've caught some big pike in the Passaic River at Elmwood Park. I caught a few from the bank in front of the high school - they are usually in the shallows after the spawn (late April/early May). The best way to go there, however, is in a boat. There are some great spots downstream near the old flea market building, and the LM and SM bass are huge there. Fairfield is the "Two Bridges" area, right? I heard it was good, but never tried it. I scouted it once, and it looked like a canoe would work well. I know some guys catch pike from kayaks there. I heard that one of the local tackle shops sells a special map for pike in the Passaic, but I can;t remember the name of the store (I patronized Tommy's place in Paterson back in the day). I also like fishing the river at Little Falls, just above RT 46. You can wade some of it, the smallmouth bass are awesome, and I would occasionally get a pike there. Jointed Rapala minnow was my lure of choice. I haven;t seriously fished up there in a few years, but I did sneak out for one hour this spring and got a SM Bass in Elmwood Park (see my catch report).
