37.5" / 14.9 lb. Bowfin caught by Mike P. fishing on Monday October 19, 2009 at 10:30 in Lake Champlain 5.51 km from Alburg in Grand Isle County, Vermont (VT), United States North America using a #5 FireTiger Aglia a Spinnerbait by Mepps

Caught this beast while trolling for northern pike at 2.7 mph. and I don't mind telling ya they hit like a freight train at that speed !

Hank - you've got to be wanting to come north to try Champlain some time. Some big ones in there! LCI tournament on fathers day every year.

Mike,

You may be right. I haven;t updated my list in a while.
Anyhow, it is a great fish, and your story was great - they do hit like freight trains!

Hey Henry ! I thought the VT. state record was 15.1 lbs.?, But anyway, no, the weight was taken on a Berkley electronic scale. I released that fish back into the bay where I caught her though. I guess I'll have to catch her again this spring and see if she's fattened up any ! Ha ha !

Mike - great fish! Did you weigh it on a certified scale?
I ask for one reason - if the weight is correct, then your fish was one ounce larger than the standing state record.
