i rarely fish shirtless. but, when you bring your non-fishing brooklyn buddy into a tight and somewhat technical environment, things happen. let's just say bill and his spinnerbait and me and our canoe lost to the maple tree. it's fun ignoring alligator snapping turtles and leaping wolf spiders as you tiptoe through knee deep muck trying to feel for your glasses with bare feet. i was vindicated a few minutes later with this beast. you can't see all the glory of his ugliness from the picture, but he was missing an eye, riddled with scars, and somehow smelled like bourbon. what a bruiser. he literally crashed through 3 feet of dead branches just to get to my buzzbait. we thought a beaver was attacking. when i finally got him out of the water, he was wheezing and coughing up pickerel scales. beautiful bass. never found those glasses.
