I have had with luck with yellow powerbait in the fall but I prefer small spinners and crankbaits.

I hear they are stocking the Manasquan River soon. Anyone going? I may come up in December and take a shot at the sea run Browns......

I've been out a couple times in northern NJ since they stocked the rivers last week, but haven't caught any and no one I've talked to has either. It seemed like there was a lot more action last year, but maybe I've just been in the wrong places at the wrong times.

Don't waste your time henry. The sea runs have already been netted by striper fishermen for bait at the mouth of the manasquan. And the seals got what was left.

I managed to catch a rainbow on a spinner on Sunday afternoon in the South Branch of the Raritan. It was decent sized, but  wasn't one of the monsters they said they were releasing this month.

How do you know, Brian? My buddy is out there scouting the river this week.

The Raritan is such a long river i don't know how any1 can catch trout in there. Right now it's a good time to fish the river for carp using some bread dipped in honey long sit but worth the time. Joe what color spinner was the spinner that you used? Might cast that color down here for a while

A guy I work with was at the mouth of the manasquan and saw people cast netting them. A guy on his boat said that they were browns from up river. He said they do it every year and use them for striper bait. He also saw a seal chasing something around.

But its still worth a try. I used to do good at  Allair state park but they were just stockie rainbows.

I was using a blue Tsunami Cock-tail spinner with a silver blade. I think i was 1/16 oz.. I had similar luck with that lure last year. It was about 3 in the afternoon and it was a sunny day.

The South Branch starts up by where I live, so I didn't have to go far. The stretch by me has some nice trout-friendly structures.  I was hoping to get a brookie, though. I've only ever caught rainbows and browns. I've read the South Branch has native brook trout population. http://www.njtu.org/2010/09/brook-trout-study-on-upper-south-branch-raritan/

Wow, that is a crazy story. That's probably illegal to net those fish. What a shame. I'm still waiting on my buddy's report - he caught a few sea runs down there last year, betw 15-18". They were beautiful.

Got a report from my buddy in NJ. he caught 60 trout in the Manasquan this past weekend. Nearly all were the stocked Rainbows between 10-12", with a few small Browns. No sea-runs, though. Regardless, the snow melt made fishing conditions ideal. I am planning to get up there soon.....

I landed a 17" brookie in the Rocakway RIver in Boonton last week.
