Hey Ray, My Wife kick's butt on Spinnerbait's mainly when it's cloudy and raining even on windy days also. Or when it's getting late or before a storm comes. She uses a green/orange Spinnerbait made by Strike-king. I asked how your doing it she tell's me that she let's it drop 3-4ft maybe and just use a medium retrieve. Personally I'am not good with spinnerbait's. My wife don't use no trailer hook nor a trailer.

Thank you for your quick response. I went to walmart today and bought a variety of weights and colors. i hope i get something. My buddy and i recently joined a club and it appears they been pulling bass out the middle of the lake by flipping spinnerbaits out there. Need to figure something out! they are bringing in 4 + lbers!

The more tips the merrier!

Yea trying different color's, blade's, depth's, speed's you are bound to make the right choice. My wife's biggest bass was last year on the spinnerbait casting on the edge's around March 20th and the bass justnail it man it was about 5-lbs. She was doing a faster retrieve and barly under the top to show ribble's. Personally like I said I suck with spinnerbait's, I'am great with Buzzbait's lol

AD37 .....

Saw a guy at local golf course pond pull out 2 pigs (4-5Lbs LMB) on a strike king firetiger (aka. green-orange-yellow spinnerbait). Trick i saw him use was CAST, and gentle, slow retrieve(use reel with HIGh gear ration  ie 7:1).2 weeks ago i was fishing CT river, a buddy was throwing white spinnerbait...BANG a 3LB smallmouth hit it under bridge pilling....i was throwing a white 1/2oz spinnerbait on Sunday, got a HIT but fish missed the hook..its HIT or miss..wont know unless you try....get one with willow leaf blade (long thin shiny blade)...cast and destroy dude!!!!!!!!

Just dont forget about Hooked-In. Other sights just aren't the same and people don't appreciate each other the same.

John,

It was amazing when i was fishing thru some lily pads and did not get stuck once. However no hits! i am not giving up yet!!!! plan on trying again. any thing you do special....

i dont think i do anything special hell i use dollar spinnerbaits i fish them like jigs or slowly when its cold and a medium cast and retrieve any other time i really think you have to believe in your bait to use it effectively if im not "feeling " a lure or bait i dont think i give it enough chance if that makes since

Makes sense. We’ve been 95% of our fish on one type of worm. its hard to switch when you know a lure is producing. Still I’m catching 2-3 lb bass and other people are pulling in 4-6 lb bass on spinners...

Maybe I can help a bit?

The key is the blades. Willow blades will create more flash, then vibration. A colorado blade creates more vibration then flash. In turn a willow blade fishes faster then a colorado, the colorado creates a lot of lift.

As far as fishing it, you really can't go wrong. Steady retrieve, jigging, jerking, ripping it from grass, it all kinda works.

I use willow blades in warmer water to increase the speed, but also in stained to clear water. But this can change!

I use colorado blades in stained to muddy water, and use two to go slow, and 1 small to go faster.

The blades do a lot to effect the speed, and presentation of this bait. Two small blades can work better then one large, or the other way around.

Buy as many different style blade combinations as you can, and you can use the general rule of warmer clear water is willows, and darker colder water is colorado blades.

Hope that helps!

i have had some practice and a lot of sucsess since my last post on this subject. I absolutly love throwing spinner baits, and i prefer a colorodo blade over a willow leaf just becouse i like to feel the bait and i like the lift that it gives however the willow leaf is killer for the fast retrieves. My favorite coler is gold with streaks of red i think it imatates a carp it works great in the local lakes i fish, white is also a go to coler on a brite sunny day.

if you dont like spinners you reely need to give them a second chance. Spinner baits are a must in your tackle bag!

I am trying. I bought different blades different weights different colors… So far I have had two bass follow the bait, with no bite! One time a gar launched itself at it and then stopped. I am not giving up. The day I catch on you know I will post a picture with a big shout out to you all for the tips!

Two follows is a good sign, that means you are getting close to what they want. Some times a little faster or a little slower can trigger that bite. It could have just been the baits were fresh out of the package and smelled funny to them lol.

Next time you get followed start making little changes, a little faster, if that don't work a little slower. If that don't work don't be afraid to pause/kill it for a second, maybe change trailer's, litte bigger or little smaller or color.

Did you have a trailer, and if so was it sented? From the sounds of the gar, he wanted it by sight. Stopping when he got close, makes me think it's the sent, or maybe lack of.

Have a great day!

what i have noticed for me and im entry level when it comes to spinners for bass, but when they follow dont slow down becouse if you do they get turned off, just throw over their heads and reel in again at the same speed you had it the first time they fallowed it you want them to have that same hipnotized type of look on the bait so that they will decide to strike, for me when i do slow it down when they are following it they seem to turn off, however we all know its all about patterns some days they like it jerked some times they like it slow fast, fast slow and so on so we just got to get out their and FISH ON BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!
