It depends on what I'm fishing with and what I'm fishing for. All my jig fishing is with braid. All deep water bottom fishing is with braid. Bonito and mackerel I use floro and everything else gets mono.

20lb power pro or Suffix braid. You won't lose half as many lures as you would with mono plus fish with teeth can't bite through it.;)

Mono, but I need to get the braid, especially for reef fishing in the ocean.

I like what Brian says here: "It depends on what I'm fishing with and what I'm fishing for. All my jig fishing is with braid. All deep water bottom fishing is with braid."

He's writing about saltwater, but I have the same philosophy for freshwater. If I am fishing light tackle for bass in current on a small stream, it's mono. But If I am fishing for them in or on a pile of rocks in deep water or in plants/heavy cover, it's braid.

Same goes for different speciies. Braid has no stretch, so if the fish has a hard mouth you need a strong hookset, and mono is not good for that. For example, pike, bowfin, musky all have hard mouths, so I fish them with braid. I feel the strike and send the hook home. Mono can't do that because it stretches.

i jig with nothing but power pro braided line since theres no stretch you can feel a minnow nipping the tail of youre jig 50ft out.  no stretch gets me faster stronger hook sets also.
