Ultra light spinning reels?

Mike Mcdaniels

So after 2 yrs with the same reel, allways lubed up right and all, and having to spin the shit out of it to keep my buzz bait at the right speed yesterday i think my phluger no longer wants to be used. Bearings are still in good shape but the brass bushings and gears are wore along with the drag. All i use is 4lb mono on it and ask Ever i use that drag!

Whats a good smooth reeling and casting (as i use light lures) spinning reel in or under the $50 range?

Gander Mountain around me has been having killer sales on reels. I got a pflueger president spinner reel for 39.99... now they did have a ultra-light one but i got a larger one for my seven foot pole. Of course I’m all the way over here in Florida so I really don’t think i am any help.... they also have they brand I think it’s called gsx tournament reels that aren’t too badly priced... sorry your gear is craping out. sounds like you are catching to many fish!!!!!!!

I been using my Utlra-Light spinning combo for 3yrs now and I use for anything freshwater. Got two spool's one with 10lb braided and one with 4-lb mono drag is great! It's a micro-spin Utlra-Light spinning combo from Wal-Mart $20Bucks. It's 4'6'' and for me it's great since I fish in alot of wooden area's I go will some angler's ain't able to cast. It help's me out alot.  I bought it for trout cause the feel is so touchy but now it's for Trout to Carp. (Just my Opinion)

I have a Pinnacle ultra lite rod that I bought a few years ago for about $30 and it's been great. I recently matched it with an Okuma Avenger reel that I got on sale from Cabelas and it's a decent reel. They are still having the sale and I think you can get them for around $20 plus shipping.

Well I ended up giving the ultra lite to the girl. I bought a 5'6 light ugly stick and the plunger presidential light reel. Still spooled on 4lb floral carbon. Just a tad bit bigger and a little more inch per crank.  So far very excited.

I just gotta say: The Pflunger President Reel, I hate that reel. bought one at dick's for my wife for her birthday and finally when spring came she only use for 2weeks before the drag and handle went on it.

Love it. Fished a bass turney today at lake Isabella landed a 7.03 and 2-3lbs and snapped off 2 a whole lot bigger.

I use a size 500 Shimano symmetre. It's there best size 500 reel. It runs retail $100, but I got it for $78 on ebay. It's the best little ultralight reel I have ever owned.

That Okuma Avenger I mentioned just broke on me in the weirdest way. I got a bite from a good sized pickeral and when I went to set the hook the stem of the reel snapped in half. I was standing there bewildered with a rod in my right hand, a reel dangling from the crank in my left, and no fish the line. It must have had a hairline crack that just finally gave way. It's warrantied, but I bought it so cheap it almost not worth it to pay the shipping to get it fixed.

@ Joe Sounds crazy for it it fall apart like that with no warning. Was that your first couple casts, or had you been fishing a while already?

That us just crazy, I have landed 5lb fluke on a Cardnial 176, while the graphite reel seat flexed like a gymnast, it didn't break. Everyone on the boat thought it would including me.

Esp a smaller reel on the ultralight setup, that is probably the strongest part of the rod and reel.

Either way I wish you a speedy recover :)
