I use a regular rod and reel. I catch some perch, bluegill, anything small and cut it up. Then I use the meat and some guts as bait. After casting out we prop the pole up on a rock, leave the bail open, and wrap a soda can around the loose line near the reel so we can hear it when the line starts zippin out. I guess that's how my dad and uncles have done it since they were kids. Works great.

Everyone I talk to who catches big ones says two things: fish the tailwaters of dams, and fish them at night. By the way, are far more active in the warmer months.

i like to goto where the water is flowing hard and use some chicken liver or some kind of stink bait, cut up anchovie for example and have some heavy test line with the drag open and when it rings i like to count to 3 set the drag and by then they prety much are hooked. works for me.
