Question

Jeff Bevelheimer

I don't mind commenting and all that here but don't like getting emails from all comments left on other peoples stuff I've commented on.  Is there a way to stop that from happening?

I think you can always have it sent to your Spam box. Atleast you can if you use yahoo email

Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback on that. The idea with that feature is to facilitate dialog between members. But it seems there is not enough control over that and it can be overload.

I am thinking that there should be a way for you to indicate that you want to follow the conversation (or stop following the conversation) versus just assuming that you want to follow all the comments on items you comment on.  Let me know if you like that idea.

The spam filter is not a good solution because it will land Hooked-in on the their blacklist. I hope you don't feel it is spam, but definitely see the need to be able to pick and choose the messages you get.

Let me know if you have other ideas for solutions and will get started on that one right away. Thanks!

Responding here in the forum isn't a problem with emails. The problem comes from posting to pictures that members post. I have a few other ideas but I'm too tired right now to think so will try and get some stuff to you in a day or so. I do have one idea however (LOL) -- you could just take me out fishing to make up for "spamming" my email box. (joking only)

Hehe.  Going fishing will solve just about anything.

Actually, I've not yet gotten around to adding the "also responded" feature to these forum posts.  Good thing you brought this up before I did.

Love to hear your ideas when you get rested. I need some sleep, too.

Would it be possible to limit people to one post a day?  Recently I saw 33 posts by 3 guys who posted a pic and report of each hickory shad they caught.  I realise they put a lot of time and effort into their posts, but why isn't one report enough?  Why should we have to sort through so many redundent reports to find what we're looking for?

lets have a site for posting fish then complain for people posting fish ,those were my shad and my sons shad that robert here is talking about we post them because there is a point system involved. if you want to start policeing the post how about making a picture of the fish you post mandatory anybody can say they caught something and post a default  im on this site everyday one its most active members but some of these people that come on here just to complain and talk trash is taking the fun out of it .

"Robert "    I understand you are new to this site and dont know much about it, but you should have gotten the rules like every new member gets when they activate an account with hooked in. So I done you a favor and posted the reason this site was created below......it was for fisherman to share stories, secret spots , and what fish are biting on different days of the week and different weather situations, because they dont bite the same stuff everyday you know, well ours dont in North Carolina, thats why we report what we catch from day to day so the idea about posting 1 fish a day will not work because I can catch a bass or any other fish for that matter on a certain lure in the morning, and they will strike something totally different in the evening, kinda like you, do you like eating pizza 3 times a day every day of the week?  I didnt think so...So for instance if I catch a hickory shad on a jigging spoon in the morning and they switch up around lunch time and start biting shad darts and then around the afternoon they start hitting green crappie jigs I think it would be crazy not to post this information so all the members will know what they are biting in our area in case they would like to come down and fish our fisheries they will kinda have a heads up on what to use at any particular time of the day or part of the year the fish were caught.....but I hope this information helped with your idea about trying to get a 1 fish per day posting rule because I truly do not believe that will happen because the site would not be the same. but here is the information you should have got when you signed up if you didnt get it for some reason........

Strategies for Success

Do you want to be the "Big Fish" at Hooked-in? You will improve your standing by amassing points and votes.

Get the most points

You get points by actively partipating in Hooked-in. Here are the ways you will get points:

  1. Post Your Catches -- This is the single most important thing you can do on Hooked-in! You will get +25 points for every catch you post. You should post your old catches to rack up points right away. Every catch makes you eligible for votes. See below on how to get the most votes.
  2. Invite Your Friends -- This will let you to securely share your secret fishing locations with your friends. You will get +5 points for every friend you invite.
  3. Vote for catches -- you can determine which catch reports are the best by voting for your favorites. You get +1 point for every vote you give.
  4. Comment on catches -- the member who posted the catch is looking forward to your comments. You get +2 points for every comment you make on a catch report.

Get the most votes

You get votes when other members like the catches you post and give you their vote. First, this means you should Post Your Catches. Second, you should follow these proven strategies to get the most votes on each of your catch reports:

  1. Post a photo -- other members love to see pictures of the fish you caught. Post a good picture and you will get lots of votes.
  2. Reveal the location -- it's your option whether or not to reveal your catch location to the world. You can keep it private, share only with your friends, or you can tell everybody. Other members love to know where you caught that fish. Reveal your location and you will get lots of votes.
  3. Tell your story -- other members love to read about how you caught that fish. Tell a good story and you will get lots of votes.

These strategies will help you to win at Hooked-in. Good luck!

Multiple postings per day is certainly not a problem and is encouraged. I think the point that Robert is making is that he likes seeing a variety of postings on the home page.  It is a very valid idea and probably not appropriate to shoot it down so quickly.

It's great to see all these fish being caught... still waiting on fishing season here in NH.

i like to see a variety of fish myself those winter months when there was about 1 post a week was sending me into withdrawals robert i post all my catches cause me and my friends here have a friendly competition going on on the points on here its not a normal occurence for us to catch that many of one fish but at times it will happen so hope if you will bare with it but on most times i tend to post a real variety of catches from snakes to pickerel so good luck on the water and hopefully we can put this behind us.

Right on. We are still in withdrawals here in New Hampshire. The more postings the better in my opinion ;)

Any idea for improving the website is welcomed.

Wow I leave for a day and have a few responders that have hijacked my question. LOL Good!

Joe I still owe you some ideas and will get you those as promised.

I do know when we come onto this site it is a little confusing seeing nothing but picture after picture. That said I assume that is what this site is about, right, posting pictures of fish we've caught. If that is the case then nothing wrong with those posting per site rules.
